Anything Goes – aus 2064: Fiktionen aus der Zukunft irritieren das postmoderne Museum
Interventionen und Performances von Studierenden der ABK-Stuttgart 

40 Jahre nach Eröffnung der zukunftsweisenden postmodernen Architektur von James Stirling als Neue Staatsgalerie in Stuttgart stellen sich heute Fragen zum ästhetischen, funktionalen, strukturellen und narrativen Potenzial des Museums und der öffentlichen Sammlung. Am Internationalen Museumstag setzen Studierende der ABK Stuttgart hierzu subtile Interventionen und flüchtige Performances als Irritationen aus der Zukunft in die Räume und auf die Terrassen des ikonischen Museumskomplexes. Ihre spekulativen Fiktionen nehmen kritische wie spielerische Positionen ein, sie feiern das postmoderne Museum als Ort für Imagination und öffentlichen Diskurs.

Ein interdisziplinäres Kooperationsprojekt zwischen Studierenden der Architektur, der Bildender Kunst, des Künstlerischen Lehramts und des Kommunikationsdesigns von Prof.in Bettina Kraus, Prof.in Antonia Low und Prof.in Lucienne Roberts im Austausch mit Dr. Susanne Kaufmann-Valet und Hendrik Bündge, Kuratorenteam für Moderne und Zeitgenössische Kunst der Staatsgalerie Stuttgart.

Anything Goes – aus 2064: Fictions from the future irritating the postmodern museum
ABK-Stuttgart student interventions and performances

It is 40 years since James Stirling’s avant-garde, postmodern museum opened as the Neue Staatsgalerie in Stuttgart. Now, its aesthetic and functional, structural and narrative potentials are all being renegotiated, alongside the nature of its public collection. This International Museum Day, students from Stuttgart’s State Academy of Fine Arts have been invited to respond to this iconic museum via a series of subtle interventions and transient performances in the galleries and on the terraces. As though irritations from the future, these speculative fictions are both critical and playful, celebrating the postmodern museum as a space for imagination and public discourse.

This is an interdisciplinary project between students from architecture, fine arts/art education and communication design – an initiative by professors Prof. Bettina Kraus, Prof. Antonia Low and Prof. Lucienne Roberts, in dialogue with Dr. Susanne Kaufmann-Valet and Hendrik Bündge, the curatorial team for Modern and Contemporary Art at the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart.
